MONUMENT TO AFANASY NIKITIN

In honor of the famous Tver merchant Afanasy Nikitin in the world erected three monuments. Their location symbolizes the merchant’s trading path, forming a peculiar ring: Tver, India and Theodosia. Just recently, historians talked about Vasco da Gama as the pioneer of India. However, now it is reliably known that the usual merchant from Tver Afanasy Nikitin reached the shores of unprecedented land in 1471. In his homeland, in honor of this event, a monument was erected to an outstanding fellow countryman, who glorified a small town. The monument to Athanasius Nikitin is a visiting card for the townspeople, who by word of mouth transmit folk tales, narrating about the history of his appearance.
